Wagon rides, crafts set for nature fest

Speigel Grove, the Fremont estate of 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes, will host GroveFest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.  

The theme of this year’s free family event is Nature at the Grove. Visitors can enjoy crafts and games, live animals and free horse-drawn wagon rides. Food will be available for purchase.

Celebration to honor ancients, solstice

Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve near Lebanon will celebrate the summer solstice with a sunrise event at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. 

Visitors can watch as the sun rises between two ancient walls of earth and learn the importance of Fort Ancient to the people who built it 2,000 years ago.

Social will feature some sweet treats

Ice cream and live music will be featured at Adena Mansion and Gardens in Chillicothe at the Red, White and Blue Ice Cream Social on July 1.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets to relax on the grounds while performers including the Sodbusters play. Homemade fruit cobblers and root beer floats will be sold at the event.
