Seniors: Week of Jan. 31

Bus trip

Final payment is due by Feb. 9 for a bus trip hosted by Active Christian Seniors at Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church on March 15 to Amish County in Sugarcreek, Ohio. A bus tour will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the church parking lot. The tour will include a scavenger hunt, candle carving at Lamp and Light Candle, a buffet lunch and the show “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” at the Amish Country Theatre. The bus will return at approximately 6:30 p.m. Cost is $113 per person. Reservations and down payment (at least half) can be made with the church office. Call 724-745-0800 or visit 112 W. Seniors lunch

A PrePurim Seniors Lunch will be held at noon on Feb. 27 at Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon. Lunch will include traditional hamentashen, and there will be musical entertainment and raffle prizes. Suggested donation is $5. Wheelchair accessible. To register, call 412-278-2658.


Enjoy contests and speakers while losing weight for $5 per month with TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 75. The group meets from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at Carnegie Retirement Residence, Railroad Avenue. Weigh-ins at 6 p.m. For more information, call Francis at 412-818-7489.

Better Than Ever Independents, also known as the Sassy Seniors, is a theatrical group that performs vaudeville-type shows at nursing homes, AARP meetings and more. New members age 50 and older are needed. For more information, email

Westminster Recreation Outreach Center at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, offers Fitness for Seniors (55+). Dormont AARP

Dormont AARP #3015 meets the second Thursday of each month throughout the year at Unity Presbyterian Church, 1146 Greentree Road. All seniors age 55 and older and new members are welcome. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. A meeting follows at noon. Activities include entertainment, speakers, pancake brunch, covered dish dinner, annual picnic, fundraisers and travel opportunities.
