Schedule: PHS sets Senior Night tonight

Tears may be shed Friday as the Palestine High School girls’ basketball team has Senior Night activities.

The LadyCats will play host to Mexia, with junior varsity games starting at 5 p.m.

Palestine’s girls’ team features two seniors in Jaila Cook and Jessie Storment, both of whom have played pivotal roles for the 23-10 LadyCats.

On Tuesday, Palestine qualified for the playoffs with a four-point win at Athens.

The Palestine boys also will play Mexia in this District 4A-18 gender doubleheader.

Meanwhile, Westwood has the bye in District 3A-18.

Other District 3A-18 games will pit Leon at Elkhart and Malakoff at Frankston. This will be Little Dribblers Night in Frankston, with special recognition for youth basketball players.

LaPoynor will travel to Cayuga for a District 2A-19 boys/girls doubleheader.

Grapeland will play host to nearby Latexo in District 2A-20. Neches visits Douglass in District 2A-21.

Slocum travels to Avalon while Oakwood plays at Trinidad in District 1A-27, wrapping up the basketball slate.


The Palestine boys’ soccer team, with an 18-0 record, will play host to Pittsburg with the junior varsity game slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The varsity girls’ game at Grace Community in Tyler was cancelled, head coach Luis Hernandez reported.


McGregor will play at Palestine in a scrimmage, meanwhile Westwood travels to Kilgore.


Palestine competes in its second boys’ and girls’ tennis tournament of the season at Jacksonville.

Matches will begin at 8:30 p.m.
