PERI District VII annual PERI meeting to be held in Jackson – Jackson County Times

The Public Employee Retirees Incorporated (PERI) District VII annual meeting will be held in Jackson on Thursday, Aug. 24. The district meeting will be at the OSU Extension Office, 17 Standpipe Road, Jackson, Ohio. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with speakers at 10:30 a.m. The Jackson PERI Chapter will not hold its regular Aug.14 meeting so members may attend the District Annual Meeting.

Speakers will include Geoff Hetrick, PERI President and CEO; Steven Toth, OPERS Board of Trustees Member; Kendra Burford, Community Liassson Officer with the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) of the Ohio Department of Insurance and Arnold Tripp Jackson County Veterans Services Director who will review the new Ohio Veterans’ ID Card.

Mr. Hetrick brings more than 30 years as association leadership to his position. He is currently working with the PERI Board to develop a five year strategic plan designed to grow the PERI and provide added value for its 60,000 plus members. He will address the members and provide the opportunity for feedback from the group. He will be very interested in hearing from the membership regarding changes OPERS has proposed in the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for OPERS retirees.

Mr. Toth is one of two retiree representatives on the 11 member OPERS Board of Trustees. The OPERS Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of Ohio’s largest public employee retirement system. The OPERS Board of Trustees is responsible for the administration and management of OPERS. The board meets monthly to review and formulate policies concerning the members, contributors and benefit recipients of OPERS, and the OPERS office staff. OPERS has over 91 billion dollars in investments and 3,680 employees. The board of trustees also authorizes the investments made with the system’s funds. Mr. Toth will also be interested in feedback from members regarding the proposed changes in the COLA.

Kendra Burford is a Community Liassson Officer with the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) of the Ohio Department of Insurance. The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program helped more than 160,000 Ohioans with Medicare issues and saved a record 16.4 million dollars in 2013 through its toll-free hotline, in-person counseling and 1,429 statewide outreach events. Mrs. Burford will review Medicare options for Ohio PERS retirees and changes in health insurance options for seniors.

Arnold Tripp is a retired Marine and serves as the Director of the Jackson County Veterans’ Services Office. He will discuss the new State of Ohio Veterans Identification Card and how to veterans can get the new ID card.

PERI District VII includes Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton Counties. All PERI members in the District are welcome and encouraged to attend.
