Here’s the latest from the Dover Council on Aging.

Some events require reservations. Please call 508-315-5734 to reserve a space, or go to and click on Council on Aging in the “Dover’s Quick Links” section. Questions? Call the COA and speak to Janet Claypoole, director.

Town Hall will be closing at 1 p.m. on Fridays, including the COA.

Need a ride to COA lunches or events? Please call the COA, and we will arrange a free ride.

Special Events

Powisset Farm Cooking Class — Thursdays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 26. Sponsored by the Friends of the Dover COA. $15 per class, $25 for both classes. Come learn new techniques and recipes from a master chef. Dover’s and Westwood’s COAs are offering cooking classes at the farm; space is limited to four Dover seniors for each class. Your must sign up in advance.

Sept. 28 — Bread Making and Soup.

Oct. 26 — Stews and Root Veggies.

Harvest Brunch (formerly Jazz Brunch) — Sunday, Oct. 22, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Price is $35 preregistration, $45 at the door. Sponsored by the Friends of the COA at the American Legion. Enjoy music from the 1920s and 30s while dining with friends. Tickets available at the COA office. Funds raised support services and programs for Dover’s seniors.

Travel News

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, travel to the North Shore Music Theatre to see the musical “Evita.” We will lunch first at Danversport Yacht Club and then enjoy this classic Broadway show. Cost is $115 per person, which includes bus, lunch and theater tickets. Please make checks payable to Westwood COA.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, we are off to ride the Essex Valley Steam Train and enjoy a narrated Connecticut Riverboat Cruise with a stop for a delicious lunch. Cost is $89 per person and includes rail, riverboat, coach bus and lunch. We will be traveling with our Westwood friends, so please make checks payable to Westwood COA.

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, come for a lunch trip to the 1761 Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster. Sign up soon, as space is limited.

On Friday, Nov. 17, travel to Boston to enjoy a buffet luncheon at Symphony Hall and first balcony seats for a 1:30 p.m. performance of Boston Symphony Orchestra with Conductor Christoph von Dohnanyi and Martin Helchem, Pianist. Cost is $34 and due at signup to hold seats. Performance is selling out quickly, so please sign up soon with the COA to reserve a spot. Space is limited to 10 seats.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, join us as we travel to Boston Symphony Hall for a memorable Holiday Boston Pops performance. Enjoy lunch at a Boston restaurant before the 4 p.m. matinee performance at Symphony Hall. Cost is $114 per person with sponsorship from the Friends of the Dover COA.

Ongoing Activities

BOCCE — 10 a.m. at the American Legion. All are welcome.

SHINE — Questions about Medicare or health insurance? Call the COA for an appointment with SHINE counselor Renee Rubin.

KNITTING — Mondays at 11:30 a.m., Caryl Center, Room 108. Beginners and experienced knitters welcome. Bring a project on your own, or you can join the knitters who make hats, booties and blankets for those in need with donated yarn. All are welcome.

MAH JONGG — Thursdays at 1 p.m., Caryl Center, Room 108. All levels welcome.

BLUE MOON BAGELS AND BREADS — Thursday, Sept. 28, Caryl Center, Room 116. Donated baked goods available for pickup after 10 a.m.

SENIOR COFFEE HOUR — Friday, Sept. 29, Caryl Center, Room 108. Please join us at 8 a.m. for coffee and conversation.

CHI GONG — Mondays, 5:30 p.m., Dover Town Library, Community Room. Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m., Caryl Center, Room 108. $3 per class. Perfect for all levels.

YOGA FOR WELLNESS — Wednesdays, 10 a.m., Caryl Center, Room 215. $3 per class.

MEDITATION — Wednesdays, 11 a.m., Caryl Center, Room 215. $3 per class.

STRENGTH AND STABILITY — Tuesdays, 9-9:50 a.m.; Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m., Caryl Center, Room 215. $3 per class. Bring water; equipment is provided. Moved to Room 108 for the summer.

PICKLEBALL — Mondays starting Sept. 25, Caryl Center gym. Choose a session starting at 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. The game is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis. There are up to four players per 45-minute session. Call the COA and sign up for a time slot. Co-sponsored with the Parks and Recreation Department.
