McPherson seniors drops opener 13-1 to Bellevue

Rough start against good team for Senior legion team.

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The McPherson senior American Legion Post 24 baseball team went on the road to open their season with a 13-1 loss to Bellevue West (Bellevue, Neb.). The game was played at Tointon Stadium in Manhattan, Kan.

Bellevue was the home team and scored early and often with five runs in the first inning, four in each of the next two innings. McPherson’s lone run came in the top of the fourth but was not enough to stave off the run-rule defeat.

“We ran into a really good team today,” said McPherson coach Mark Reifschneider. “Bellevue was very solid throughout the lineup and also pitched very well. We showed a little rust today. We also had some key players missing. I was proud of our kids for battling through this one.”

Jack Reifschneider picked up the only extra base hit with a double for Post 24. Nathan Robl was the only other Mac player with a hit, while Zane Myers picked up the RBI.

Four McPherson pitches saw action on the hill, combining to give up nine hits, nine earned runs, six walks and three strikeouts. Raine Reitsma was the starter and was tagged with the loss.

Mac’s seniors travel back to Manhattan, Kan. on Saturday for a twin bill as they’ll face Littleton, Colo. at 11:15 a.m. and Bellevue West at 2:30 p.m.
