Jersey City to host National Senior Health Day

The Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services will host a National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday at Berry Lane Park in Jersey City.

This occasion will mark the last of a series events held by the HHS this month in celebration of Older Americans Month.

The event, organized in partnership with U.S. Rep. Donald Payne’s office, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day will start out with a line dancing class at 10:30 a.m., followed by Zumba at 11:30 a.m., and yoga/fitness at 12:30 p.m.

Additionally, there will be wellness vans from both Barnabas Health and CarePoint Health for various health screenings. Other vendors will include Wellcare, Metropolitan Health, and the Diabetes Foundation.

“Celebrating our seniors is something we do everyday, but during the month of May we take special occasion to honor and recognize their contributions to our city and our country,” Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said in a statement.

“We know that our seniors have made our city what it is today, so we are constantly working to provide them with recreation, healthcare and other services to enrich their golden years and say thank you.”
