Health Briefs: Health care documentary to screen

“Fix It: Healthcare At The Tipping Point,” a 58-minute documentary on the health-care system, will screen from 4-6 p.m. and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Flat Rock Cinema, 2700 Greenville Highway, Flat Rock. 

Guest speaker Marsha Fretwell, M.D., will discuss the movie and answer questions from the attendees. Fretwell is a longtime member of Physicians for a National Health Program.

Medicare classes in Henderson County

First Quarter 2018 Medicare Classes for Henderson County will be held from 2-4 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Community Health Services, 2579 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville. Classes are free and open to the public. Registration requested. Registration at www.COAbc.org, or call 828-277- 8288

Medicare classes

The Council on Aging of Buncombe County, in conjunction with Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) has announced “Medicare Choices Made Easy” classes from January to April. The classes will explain how Medicare works, the enrollment process, how to avoid penalties and ways to save money.

The Information Sessions are free and open to the public.

HealthWays program under way

The Free Clinics’ HealthWays program is designed for long-term improvement in important health measures, such lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol and/or weight loss.

HealthWays builds on and leverages existing social relationships and positive peer pressure to promote healthy living and alleviate epidemics of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity in our community.

This program is free, and is held every Tuesday through March 27 at the Dana Community Center located at 2879 Upward Road, Flat Rock.
