Free Senior Health Fair Hosted In Lemont

LEMONT, IL — State Representative and Republican Jim Durkin of Western Springs and State Senator and Republican John F. Curran of Downers Grove will host a free Senior Health Fair, offering various important services all in one location. The event is on Friday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at CORE Fitness Center, 16028 127th St., in Lemont.

“This is a great option for seniors in our communities to take care of important tasks for their health and safety all in one easy location,” Durkin said in a release. “In addition to taking advantage of essential services, health care professionals can provide updates from the medical field and answer important questions.”

According to the release, more than 50 groups and vendors will be participating in the fair this year. Seniors will have the opportunity to receive screenings for hearing, blood pressure, flu shots, pneumonia, spinal stress, and learn more about the rules of the road, apply/renew their passports and utilize Illinois’ ICash program to see if they have any unclaimed property being held by the state. They can also obtain important information on hospice, assisted living, nutrition, eye health, Alzheimer’s, transportation, utility savings, financial security and auditory therapy.

“The Senior Health Fair provides a convenient setting for senior citizens to explore the large range of local and state resources available to them, learn more about financial security through law enforcement and state agencies, as well as receive free health screenings,” Curran said in a release. “This is a unique opportunity to socialize with other residents and talk with knowledgeable representatives from groups all across the state.”

Unwanted prescription medication can also be dropped off at the event, and must be placed in Ziploc bags. According to the release, the Rules of the Road safety course will be taught by the Secretary of State’s Office and will begin at 10 a.m. Also, for all those interested in applying for or renewing their passport, the first 50 passport applicants at the fair will receive their photo free of cost.
