Florence Huskies hold on for 43-41 win against Pueblo Centennial

FLORENCE — The Florence Huskies girls edged the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs on Monday night, 43-41, at home.

The Huskies were led by senior Kim Okinedo, who produced 14 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. Other seniors contributing were Erica Little with 10 points, Elle Eagle, 8, and Haleigh Leibel, 6.

The Huskies started quickly in the first quarter, leading 16-5. By the half, the Huskies extended the lead to 25-13. In the second half, the Bulldogs fired back to out score the Huskies whose shooting had gone cold.

However, their scrappy defense, rebounding and free throws held off the Bulldog surge. The Huskies were up by five with only a few seconds to go on the clock when Centennial hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to close within 2, but Florence held on for the win.

The Huskies record is now 2-1. The team’s loss was Dec. 2 against Swink. The team will next play at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Pueblo Central in Pueblo. The Huskies will travel to Rocky Ford on Friday.
